The golden rule of kitchen design is to divide the kitchen into five zones arranged in the order of kitchen activities. These zones are: stock, washing, preparation, cooking and storage. Once the foodstuffs are taken out of the fridge or pantry, they are usually washed in the sink and then cut and cooked. It is then a good idea to have the items needed to prepare dishes and serve them close to the sink, worktop and cooker.
